You may be wondering, how can planting trees really save the world? This is a valid question and one we want to address. There are many ways for you as an individual to protect the environment, reduce your carbon footprint and improve the lives of animals. Trees aren’t the only way to do this.
However, here’s why we think planting trees is a great way to get involved:
- Trees filter the air we breathe. They absorb harmful pollutants and release clean breathable oxygen back into the atmosphere. Deforestation releases CO2 into the atmosphere which traps heat and increases global temperatures. Planting strong, healthy trees will help to offset these carbon emissions and reduce the effects of climate change.
- Trees also reduce the effects of natural disasters. Yes, seriously! Strong and resilient trees can absorb more than 15,000 liters of water per year. This process can reduce the effects of flooding and landslides. Not to mention, healthy trees are less susceptible to wildfires and can even protect locals and animal life from smoke.
- Trees provides homes to over 80% of the earth’s land-based life. One single tree can provide shelter to hundreds of species of life. Without trees, these unique and specialized forms of life would become completely extinct.
So, while trees alone won’t solve climate change and they aren’t the only way you can help, planting trees is an excellent way for you to get involved and make an impact on saving the world!
